Left Turn Signal Indicator Inoperative

  1. If lighting diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If lighting diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to LIGHTING SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in HEADLIGHTS - AUTOMATIC TWILIGHT SENTINEL - SEVILLE article.
  2. Check operation of exterior left turn signal lights. If exterior lights operate properly, go to next step. If exterior lights do not operate properly, repair exterior lights as necessary. See EXTERIOR LIGHTS article.
  3. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). See Figure . Turn ignition on. Select Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) data list. Monitor LEFT TURN SIGNAL status. Move turn signal lever to left turn position. If LEFT TURN SIGNAL status is not ON, go to next step. If LEFT TURN SIGNAL status is ON, go to step  6 .
  4. Check for open or high resistance in Light Blue wire between IPC connector C1 terminal B12 and 30-pin Black in-line connector C201 terminal A7. See Figure . C201 is located under right side of instrument panel near rear of glove compartment. If circuit is okay, go to next step. If faulty circuit is found and repaired, go to step  8 .
  5. Check for poor connections at IPC connector. If connections are okay, go to next step. If faulty connection is found and repaired, go to step  8 .
  6. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). See Figure . Turn ignition on. Select Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) SPECIAL FUNCTIONS. Perform DISPLAY(S) TEST. Observe left turn signal indicator on IPC during. If left turn signal indicator illuminates and then turns off, check for intermittent connections at IPC. If left turn signal indicator does not illuminate, go to next step.
  7. Replace Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to next step.
  8. Recheck left turn signal indicator operation. If left turn signal indicator operates properly, repair is complete. If left turn signal indicator does not operate properly, go to step  2 .
