Test No. 8: Driver's Information Center (DIC) Switches Inoperative
- If instrument panel cluster diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If instrument panel cluster diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition on. Press each Driver's Information Center (DIC) button. Using scan tool, select Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) data list. Monitor DRIVER'S INFORMATION CENTER (DIC) SWITCH parameters. Press each DIC switch. If DIC SWITCH parameter is not ON when each DIC button is pressed and not OFF when each button is released, go to next step. If DIC SWITCH parameter is ON when each DIC button is pressed and OFF when each button is released, go to step 12 .
- If DIC SWITCH parameter is OFF for all switches when each switch is pressed, go to next step. If DIC SWITCH parameter is not OFF for all switches when each switch is pressed, go to step 5 .
- Check for open in Black/White wire between DIC switch connector terminal No. 12 and ground. If circuit is okay, go to step 10 . If faulty circuit is found and repaired, go to step 12 .
- If DIC SWITCH parameter is ON for all switches when each switch is released, go to next step. If DIC SWITCH parameter is not ON for all switches when each switch is released, go to step 8 .
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect DIC switch connector. Turn ignition on. Monitor suspect DIC SWITCH parameter. If suspect DIC SWITCH parameter is ON, go to next step. If suspect DIC SWITCH parameter is OFF, go to step 10 .
- Check for short to ground in signal circuit between suspect DIC switch and IPC. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If circuits are okay, go to step 11 . If faulty circuit is found and repaired, go to step 12 .
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect DIC switch. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between suspect DIC switch and ground. Monitor DIC SWITCH parameters on scan tool. Turn ignition on. If suspect DIC switch is OFF, go to next step. If suspect DIC SWITCH parameter is ON, go to step 10 .
- Check for open in signal circuit between suspect DIC switch and IPC. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If circuits are okay, go to step 11 . If faulty circuit is found and repaired, go to step 12 .
- Replace DIC switch. See DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to step 12 .
- Replace Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Using scan tool, obtain approximate mileage, and contact an authorized Delco service center for transfer of information from failed IPC to replacement IPC. After repairs, go to next step.
- Recheck operation of DIC switches. If DIC switches operate properly, repair is complete. If DIC switches do not operate properly, go to step 2 .
