DTC B1983: Device Power 1 Circuit Low: Testing

  1. If instrument panel cluster diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If instrument panel cluster diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. With engine running, use DVOM to measure voltage between ground and both terminals on backside of CLUSTER fuse (20-amp), located in rear compartment fuse block. If voltage is greater than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to step  6 .
  3. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Display IPC data list value for BATTERY VOLTAGE. If voltage displayed on scan tool is greater than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage displayed on scan tool is less than 10 volts, go to step  5 .
  4. Replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Using scan tool, obtain approximate mileage, and contact an authorized Delco service center for transfer of information from failed IPC to replacement IPC. Perform INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  5. Repair open in Orange wire between IPC connector C1 and CLUSTER fuse located in rear compartment fuse block. Perform INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  6. Check condition of CLUSTER fuse. If fuse is open, go to next step. If fuse is okay, perform INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  7. Replace CLUSTER fuse. After repairs, perform INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
