Engine Coolant Temperature Gauge Inaccurate/Inoperative

  1. If instrument cluster diagnostic system check was performed, go to next step. If instrument cluster diagnostic system check was not performed, go to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). See Figure . Turn ignition on. Select Powertrain Control Module (PCM) data list. Monitor Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) status and display. If ECT status does not match engine coolant temperature display, go to next step. If ECT status matches engine coolant temperature display, go to appropriate on-board diagnostic system check in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
  3. Replace Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to next step.
  4. After repairs, recheck operation of gauge. If gauge operates properly, repair is complete. If gauge does not operate properly, go to step  2 .
