Instrument Cluster Diagnostic System Check

  1. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). See Figure . If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, go to SCAN TOOL DOES NOT POWER UP under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in BODY CONTROL MODULES - DEVILLE article.
  2. Turn ignition on. Attempt to establish communication with Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC), Powertrain Control Module (PCM), Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM), inflatable restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM), Dash Integration Module (DIM), Rear Integration Module (RIM), Instrument Panel Integration Module (IPM), Theft Deterrent Module, Driver Door Module (DDM), Passenger Door Module (PDM), Left Rear Door Module (LRDM) and Right Rear Door Module (RRDM). If scan tool communicates with all modules listed, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with all modules listed, go to SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in BODY CONTROL MODULES - DEVILLE article.
  3. Select display DTCs function for each module listed in step  2 . If any DTCs are set for any module listed, go to next step. If no DTCs are set for any module listed, attempt to diagnose by symptom. See SYMPTOM TESTS  .
  4. If scan tool displays any DTCs that begin with "U", go to SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in BODY CONTROL MODULES - DEVILLE article. If scan tool does not display and DTCs that begin with "U", go to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  table.
