PRNDL Display Inaccurate/Inoperative
NOTE:
Before diagnosing inoperative PRNDL display, check operation of dimmer control. See SETTING OF DIMMER SWITCH TO VIEW PRNDL W/AUTO HEADLIGHT CONTROL
under OPERATION.
- If instrument cluster diagnostic system check was performed, go to next step. If instrument cluster diagnostic system check was not performed, go to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). See Figure . Start engine and allow to idle. Using scan tool, select Powertrain Control Module (PCM) data display. Place gear shift lever in Park, Reverse, Neutral and Drive positions. Monitor IMS status. If IMS status matches PRNDL display for all gears, go to next step. If IMS status does not match PRNDL display for all gears, go to appropriate powertrain on-board diagnostic system check in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
- Replace Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to next step.
- After repairs, recheck operation of PRNDL display. If PRNDL display operates properly, repair is complete. If PRNDL display does not operate properly, go to step 2 .
