DTC U1040: Loss Of Serial Communications - Abs: Testing

  1. If multiple class 2 DTCs are set as current (i.e., U1300, U1301, U1088 or U1153), check for an intermittent short to ground or battery in Purple wire between individual control modules. See appropriate wiring diagram in DATA LINK CONNECTORS article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
  2. Check for disconnected EBTCM. If EBTCM is disconnected, DTC U1040 will set and ANTI-LOCK warning indicator will illuminate.
  3. If DTC is current, use a scan tool and attempt to establish communication with EBTCM. If communication cannot be established, diagnose and repair problem in EBTCM system. See appropriate ANTI-LOCK article in BRAKES. If communication can be established, replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Perform IPC DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  .
  4. If DTC is history, check for intermittent open in Purple wire between individual control modules. See appropriate wiring diagram in DATA LINK CONNECTORS article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
