Code C1788: RTD Body Relay Short To Battery/Short Across Load

  1. Perform CVRSS system check. See CVRSS SYSTEM CHECK  . After performing CVRSS system check, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Remove RTD BODY relay. Using DVOM, measure resistance between coil terminals of RTD BODY relay (component side). See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If resistance is 50-125 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is less than 50 ohms or more than 125 ohms, go to step  7 .
  3. Disconnect 32-pin CVRSS control module connector C1. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using DVOM, measure voltage between damper relay enable circuit (Light Blue/White wire) of CVRSS control module harness connector C1 and ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to step  6 . If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to next step.
  4. Check for intermittent short to voltage in damper relay enable circuit (Light Blue/White wire). Repair as necessary. If circuit is okay, go to next step.
  5. Reinstall/reconnect all components/connectors. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Clear CVRSS codes. Display CVRSS codes. If Code C1788 is set, go to step  8 . If Code C1788 is not set, see NOTES ON INTERMITTENTS  under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING.
  6. Repair short to voltage in damper relay enable circuit (Light Blue/White wire). Reinstall/reconnect all components/connectors.
  7. Replace RTD BODY relay.
  8. Turn ignition off. Replace CVRSS control module. Reinstall/reconnect all components/connectors. Install scan tool. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Calibrate NEW CVRSS control module. See CALIBRATING CVRSS CONTROL MODULE  under ADJUSTMENTS.
