Code RS0080: Steering Sensor Input Fault
- Clear codes. Drive vehicle faster than 50 MPH for more than 15 seconds. Display codes. If Code RS0080 is set, go to next step. If Code RS0080 is not set, go to NOTES ON INTERMITTENTS under SELF-DIAGNOSTICS.
- Turn ignition on. Center steering wheel and verify front wheels are straight. Using scan tool, monitor RSS DATA RS D15. If voltage is less than 2 volts or more than 3 volts, go to step 5). If voltage is 2-3 volts, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, monitor RSS DATA RS D15 while rotating steering wheel. If display remains constant, go to next step. If display changes, check for intermittent short to ground, short to voltage or open.
- Check sensor for removal of Yellow locking tab. Check sensor for proper assembly. If assembly is okay, replace steering sensor.
- Turn ignition off. Center steering wheel and verify front wheels are straight. Disconnect steering sensor connector. Using DVOM, measure resistance between supply circuit terminal (Tan wire) and ground circuit terminal (Brown/White wire) of steering sensor connector (component side). See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If resistance is 8000-12,000 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is less than 8000 ohms or more than 12,000 ohms, replace steering sensor.
- Check for steering sensor misalignment. If steering sensor is misaligned, clear codes. If steering sensor is not misaligned, go to next step.
- Using DVOM, measure resistance between steering signal circuit terminal (White wire) and ground circuit terminal (Brown/White wire) of steering sensor connector (component side). See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If resistance is 3500-5500 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is less than 3500 ohms or more than 5500 ohms, replace steering sensor.
- Disconnect 24-pin RSS control module connector C2. Check continuity between the following circuits of RSS control module harness connector C2 and ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS
.
- Supply circuit (Tan wire)
- Steering signal circuit (White wire)
- Ground circuit (Brown/White wire)
If continuity does not exist on all circuits, go to next step. If continuity exists on any circuit, repair short to ground in affected circuit. Reinstall/reconnect all components/connectors. Clear codes.
- Check for opens in supply circuit (Tan wire), steering signal circuit (White wire), and ground circuit (Brown/White wire). Repair open in affected circuit. Reinstall/reconnect all components/connectors. If all circuits are okay, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on. Check for shorts to voltage in supply circuit (Tan wire), steering signal circuit (White wire), and ground circuit (Brown/White wire). If voltage is present on any, repair short to voltage in affected circuit. Reinstall/reconnect all components/connectors. Clear codes. If voltage is not present on any, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Reinstall/reconnect all components/connectors. Turn ignition on. Clear codes. If Code RS0080 is not set, problem no longer exists. If Code RS0080 is set, replace RSS control module. Calibrate NEW RSS control module. See CALIBRATING RSS CONTROL MODULE under ADJUSTMENTS.
