Code RS0036: ELC Compressor Relay Short To Ground/Open Circuit
- Clear codes. Wait 30 seconds (no vehicle speed). Display codes. If Code RS0036 is set, go to next step. If Code RS0036 is not set, go to NOTES ON INTERMITTENTS under SELF-DIAGNOSTICS.
- Turn ignition off. Check 10-amp IGN-0 BODY fuse in trunk compartment fuse block. If fuse is okay, go to step 8). If fuse is blown, go to next step.
- Remove fuse. Remove ELC compressor relay. Check continuity between 10-amp IGN-0 BODY fuse terminal (Light Green wire) of trunk compartment fuse block and ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If continuity does not exist, go to step 5). If continuity exists, go to next step.
- Repair short to ground in Light Green wire. Replace fuse. Reinstall/reconnect all components/connectors. Clear codes.
- Using DVOM, measure resistance between terminals A3 (Light Green wire) and B1 (Brown wire) of ELC compressor relay (component side). See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If resistance is more than 47 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is less than 47 ohms, replace ELC compressor relay and fuse. Clear codes.
- Check continuity between terminals A3 (Light Green wire) and B1 (Brown wire) of ELC compressor relay harness connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, reinstall/reconnect all components/connectors. Replace fuse. Clear codes.
- Repair short between terminals A3 (Light Green wire) and B1 (Brown wire) of ELC compressor relay harness connector. Reinstall/reconnect all components/connectors. Replace fuse. Clear codes.
- Turn ignition on. Using DVOM, measure voltage at 10-amp IGN-0 BODY fuse terminal (Light Green wire) of trunk compartment fuse block. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If voltage is present, go to next step. If voltage is not present, repair open in fuse power supply circuit (Light Blue wire) between ignition switch and trunk compartment fuse block. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Clear codes.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect 24-pin RSS control module connector C2. Turn ignition on. Using DVOM, measure voltage at terminal A3 (Light Green wire) of ELC compressor relay harness connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If voltage is present, go to next step. If voltage is not present, repair open in Light Green wire. Clear codes.
- Using DVOM, measure voltage at terminal B1 (Brown wire) of ELC compressor relay harness connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If voltage is present, go to step 12). If voltage is not present, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Remove ELC compressor relay. Check continuity between terminal B1 (Brown wire) of ELC compressor relay harness connector and ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If continuity exists, repair short to ground in Brown wire. Clear codes. If continuity does not exist, replace ELC compressor relay. Clear codes.
- Using DVOM, measure voltage between ELC compressor relay control circuit terminal (Brown wire) of RSS control module harness connector C2 and ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If voltage is present, go to next step. If voltage is not present, repair open in Brown wire. Clear codes.
- Check RSS control module connector for corrosion or loose connections. Reinstall/reconnect all components/connectors. Clear codes. Wait 30 seconds (no vehicle speed). Display codes. If Code RS0036 is set, go to next step. If Code RS0036 is not set, check for intermittent open in Light Green wire, Brown wire, and in fuse power supply circuit (Light Blue wire) between ignition switch and trunk compartment fuse block. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
- Replace RSS control module. Calibrate NEW RSS control module. See CALIBRATING RSS CONTROL MODULE under ADJUSTMENTS.
