Code RS0032: SSS Solenoid Valve Short Across Load

  1. Clear codes. Using scan tool, select RSS OUTPUTS, and then RS 005 (STRG SOL). Cycle SSS solenoid for 20 seconds. Display codes. If Code RS0032 is set, go to step 3). If Code RS0032 is not set, go to next step.
  2. Using scan tool, select RSS DATA and monitor RS D05 (STRG DEM) and RS D06 (STRG FBK). Drive vehicle. See Figure . If data parameters are as specified, diagnose power steering system. See STEERING SYSTEM - POWER RACK & PINION article in STEERING. If data parameters are not as specified, go to NOTES ON INTERMITTENTS  under SELF-DIAGNOSTICS.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect 32-pin RSS control module connector C1 and 24-pin RSS control module connector C2. Using DVOM, measure resistance between SSS drive circuit terminal (White wire) of RSS control module harness connector C1 and SSS return circuit terminal (Brown wire) of RSS control module harness connector C2. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If resistance is more than 2 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is less than 2 ohms, go to step 6).
  4. Check RSS control module connectors for corrosion or loose connection. Reconnect RSS control module connectors. Turn ignition on. Clear codes. Using scan tool, select RSS OUTPUTS, and then RS 005 (STRG SOL). Cycle SSS solenoid for 20 seconds. If Code RS0032 is set, go to next step. If Code RS0032 is not set, check for intermittent short between White wire and Brown wire. Clear codes.
  5. Replace RSS control module. Calibrate NEW RSS control module. See CALIBRATING RSS CONTROL MODULE  under ADJUSTMENTS.
  6. Disconnect SSS solenoid valve connector. Using DVOM, measure resistance between SSS drive circuit terminal (White wire) of RSS control module harness connector C1 and SSS return circuit terminal (Brown wire) of RSS control module harness connector C2. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If resistance is more than 2 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is less than 2 ohms, repair short between White wire and Brown wire. Clear codes.
  7. Check SSS solenoid valve connector for corrosion or loose connection. Reconnect SSS solenoid valve connector. Using DVOM, measure resistance between SSS drive circuit terminal (White wire) of RSS control module harness connector C1 and SSS return circuit terminal (Brown wire) of RSS control module harness connector C2. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If resistance is more than 6 ohms, check for intermittent short between White wire and Brown wire. Clear codes. If resistance is less than 6 ohms, replace SSS solenoid valve. Clear codes.
