Installation Procedure
- A NEW front suspension strut yoke may not come with steering knuckle king pin bushing studs installed. NEW studs must be installed by the technician using a press.
- When REPLACING a front suspension strut yoke, always install NEW steering knuckle king pin bushing studs. DO NOT replace the OLD studs in an existing yoke. If the OLD studs in a yoke are damaged, replace with a NEW yoke and NEW studs.
- To press the NEW steering knuckle king pin bushing studs into a NEW front suspension strut yoke, perform the following steps:
- Place one NEW stud onto the surface of a press.
- Place the NEW yoke (1) upside down over the NEW stud.
- Use a suitable deep well socket (2) as a receiving cup for the NEW stud.
- Use the press (3) to press the NEW yoke until the NEW stud is fully seated.
- Repeat the process for the second NEW stud.
- Position the front suspension strut yoke (1) on the vehicle.
- Connect the strut assembly (4) to the front suspension strut yoke. Refer to Strut Assembly Removal and Installation (GNB) .
- Connect the front lower control arm (2) to the steering knuckle. Refer to Lower Control Arm Replacement (GNB) .
- Install the front wheel speed sensor (1) in the steering knuckle. Refer to Front Wheel Speed Sensor Replacement (Without F45) or Front Wheel Speed Sensor Replacement (With F45) .
- If equipped, Connect the electronic front suspension wiring harness (2) to the strut assembly.
- Install the front brake rotor (1) on the steering knuckle. Refer to Front Brake Rotor Replacement (J60, J61) Or Front Brake Rotor Replacement (J64) .
- Connect the front wheel drive shaft (1) to the front wheel bearing and hub assembly. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement - Left Side , or Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement - Right Side .
- Connect the steering linkage outer tie rod (3) to the steering knuckle. Refer to Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement .
- Install the front tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
