Circuit/System Verification
- Ignition ON
- Verify that DTC P0412, P0418, P2430, P2431, P2432, P2433, P2235, P2236, P2237, P2238, P2440, or P2444 is not set.
- If any of the DTCs are set
Refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle .
- If none of the DTCs are set.
- If any of the DTCs are set
- Verify the scan tool BARO pressure parameter is within the range specified in the Altitude Versus Barometric Pressure
table.
- If not within the specified range
Refer to DTC P0106 .
- If within the specified range
- If not within the specified range
- Verify the secondary air injection shutoff and check valves turn ON and OFF when commanding the Secondary Air Injection Solenoid Valve between ON and OFF with a scan tool.
- If the valves do not operate as specified
Refer to Circuit/System Testing-Secondary Air Injection Shutoff and Check Valve Malfunction.
- If the valves operate as specified
- If the valves do not operate as specified
- Verify the G21 Secondary Air Injection Pump turns ON and OFF when commanding the Secondary Air Injection Pump Relay between ON and OFF with a scan tool.
- If the pump does not operate as specified
Refer to Circuit/System Testing-Secondary Air Injection Pump Malfunction.
- If the pump operates as specified
- If the pump does not operate as specified
- Verify the scan tool Secondary Air Injection Pressure Sensor Bank 1, Bank 2 and the BARO pressure parameters are within 3kPa (0.4 psi).
- If not within the specified range
Refer to Circuit/System Testing-Secondary Air Injection System Pressure Not In Range.
- If within the specified range
- If not within the specified range
- Engine running
- Verify the scan tool Secondary Air Injection Pressure Sensor Bank 1 and Bank 2 parameters increase between 14-22kPa (2.0-3.2 psi), greater than BARO, when the Secondary Air Injection Pump Relay is commanded ON with a scan tool.
- If not within the specified range
Refer to Circuit/System Testing-Secondary Air Injection System Pressure Not In Range.
- If within the specified range
- If not within the specified range
- Verify the scan tool Secondary Air Injection Pressure Sensor Bank 1 and Bank 2 parameters increase between 5-11kPa (0.7-1.6 psi), greater than BARO, when the Secondary Air Injection System is commanded ON with a scan tool.
- If not within the specified range
Refer to Circuit/System Testing-Secondary Air Injection System Pressure Not In Range.
- If within the specified range
- If not within the specified range
- Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the Freeze Frame/Failure Records data.
- Verify the DTC does not set.
- If the DTC sets

- All OK
Verify the battery is fully charged before proceeding with this diagnostic procedure. The secondary air injection pump output will vary with system voltage.
Engine coolant temperature must be greater than 5°C (41°F) to enable scan tool device control. Repeat multiple times to verify secondary air injection shutoff and check valve operation.
To prevent the secondary air injection pump from overheating, do not operate the pump consecutively for greater than 2 minutes. The pump is provided with a thermal protector that will automatically reset when allowed to cool.
