Removal Procedure

- Remove the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement .
- Remove the coolant air bleed pipe. Refer to Coolant Air Bleed Pipe Assembly Replacement .
- Remove the left exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Removal - Left Side .
- Remove the pushrods. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .
- Remove the power steering pump pulley. Refer to Power Steering Pump Pulley Replacement (LS4) .
- Remove the 3 coolant manifold bolts to the cylinder head.
- Remove the engine mount strut and bracket. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Replacement .
- Remove and discard the cylinder head bolts (220, 221).
- Remove the cylinder head.
- Remove and discard the cylinder head gasket (217).
- Clean and inspect the cylinder head. Refer to Cylinder Head Cleaning and Inspection .
IMPORTANT:
The cylinder head bolts are of a torque to yield design and are NOT to be used again.
NOTE:
After removal, place the cylinder head on 2 wood blocks in order to prevent damage to the sealing surfaces.
