Disabling Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2006 Pontiac Montana SV6, 2006 Chevrolet Uplander, and 2006 Buick Terraza. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
IMPORTANT: Refer to SIR Service Precautions .
  1. Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicles wheels are pointing straight ahead.
  2. Turn OFF the ignition.
  3. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
  4. Open the hood and locate the underhood fuse center.
  5. Lift the cover for the underhood fuse center.
    IMPORTANT: With the Air Bag Fuse removed and the ignition ON, the AIR BAG indicator illuminates. This is normal operation and does not indicate an SIR system malfunction.
  6. 6. Locate and remove the air bag fuse from the underhood fuse center.
  7. 7. When disabling only the side impact module - RF proceed to step 26. If the entire SIR System needs to be disabled, then go to step 8.

  8. Remove the driver/left lower center pillar trim cover. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Lower Center Pillar .
  9. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) from the driver/left seat belt retractor pretensioner connector.
  10. Remove the vehicle wiring harness connector from the left seat belt retractor pretensioner.

  11. Remove the driver/left instrument panel (I/P) insulator panel. Refer to Knee Bolster, Insulator, Molding Replacement - Instrument Panel .
  12. Remove the CPA from the steering wheel module coil yellow connector (1), located at the base of the steering column.
  13. Disconnect the steering wheel module coil connector (1).

  14. Remove the CPA (3) from the LF/driver side impact module yellow connector (3), which is located under the driver seat.
  15. Disconnect the vehicle harness connector (4) from the LF side impact module connector (1).

  16. Remove the CPA (3) from the LR side impact module yellow connector (3), which is located under the LR seat.
  17. Disconnect the vehicle harness connector (4) from the LR side impact module connector (1).

  18. Remove the passenger/right instrument panel (I/P) insulator panel. Refer to Knee Bolster, Insulator, Molding Replacement - Instrument Panel .
  19. Remove the CPA (2) from the I/P module yellow connector (1).
  20. Disconnect the I/P module connector (1).

  21. Remove the passenger/right lower center pillar trim cover. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Lower Center Pillar .
  22. Remove the CPA from the right seat belt retractor pretensioner connector.
  23. Remove the vehicle wiring harness connector from the right seat belt retractor pretensioner.

  24. Remove the CPA (3) from the RR side impact module yellow connector (3), which is located under the RR seat.
  25. Disconnect the vehicle harness connector (4) from the RR side impact module connector (1).

  26. Remove the CPA (3) from the RF/passenger side impact module yellow connector (3), which is located under the passenger seat.
  27. Disconnect the vehicle harness connector (4) from the RF side impact module connector (1).
