Disabling Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2006 Pontiac Montana SV6, 2006 Chevrolet Uplander, and 2006 Buick Terraza. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
IMPORTANT: Refer to SIR Service Precautions .
  1. Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle's wheels are pointing straight ahead.
  2. Turn OFF the ignition.
  3. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
  4. Open the hood and locate the underhood fuse center.
  5. Lift the cover for the underhood fuse center.
    6. IMPORTANT: With the Air Bag Fuse removed and the ignition ON, the AIR BAG indicator illuminates. This is normal operation and does not indicate an SIR System malfunction.
  6. Locate and remove the air bag fuse from the underhood fuse center.

  7. Remove the driver/left instrument panel (I/P) insulator panel. Refer to Knee Bolster, Insulator, Molding Replacement - Instrument Panel in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
  8. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) from the steering wheel module coil yellow connector (1) located at the base of the steering column.
  9. Disconnect the steering wheel module coil connector (1).
