Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2006 Pontiac Montana SV6, 2006 Chevrolet Uplander, and 2006 Buick Terraza. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 in SIR.
  2. Remove the knee bolster trim panel. Refer to Knee Bolster, Insulator, Molding Replacement - Instrument Panel in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
  3. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .

  4. Remove the tilt lever close out plate.

  5. Remove the trim cover screws (1) from the lower steering column.

  6. Tilt the lower trim cover down and slide the lower trim cover rearward in order to disengage the locking tabs.

  7. Remove the upper trim cover screws.
  8. Remove the ignition lock cylinder. Refer to Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement .
  9. Remove the upper trim cover (2) from the steering column.
