Wipers Inoperative - One or More Modes

1 Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle? Go to Step 2  Go to Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle

  1. Turn the ignition to the ON position.
  2. Attempt to operate the wipers in each mode.
Are the wipers inoperative in all modes?		 Go to Wipers Inoperative - All Modes  Go to Step 3 
3 Are the wiper inoperative in high speed mode? Go to Step 5  Go to Step 4 
4 Are all of the low speed mode inoperative? Go to Step 13  Go to Step 18

  1. Disconnect the windshield wiper motor.
  2. Using a test lamp connected to ground, probe the windshield wiper motor high speed circuit.
  3. Turn the ignition to the ON position.
  4. Turn the wiper to the high speed setting.
Does the test lamp illuminate?		 Go to Step 19  Go to Step 6

  1. Connect the windshield wiper motor.
  2. Remove the wiper high relay.
  3. Using a test lamp connected to battery positive voltage, probe the ground circuit of the wiper high relay.
Does the test lamp illuminate?		 Go to Step 7  Go to Step 20

  1. Using a test lamp connected to ground, probe the wiper high speed relay control circuit at the wiper high relay.
  2. Turn the ignition to the ON position.
  3. Turn the wipers to the high speed setting.
Does the test lamp illuminate?		 Go to Step 8  Go to Step 10

  1. Leave the switch in the high position.
  2. Using a test lamp, probe between the wiper high speed relay control circuit and the windshield wiper motor high speed circuit.
Does the test lamp illuminate?		 Go to Step 22  Go to Step 9 
9 Test for a poor connection, an open in the windshield wiper motor high speed circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .
Did you find and correct the condition?		 Go to Step 23  Go to Step 20

  1. Disconnect the windshield wiper switch.
  2. Install the wiper high relay.
  3. Install a jumper between ground and windshield wiper switch high signal circuit.
  4. Turn the ignition to the ON position.
Do the high speed wipers operate?		 Go to Step 18  Go to Step 11 
11 Test for a poor connection, short to battery or an open in the windshield wiper switch high signal circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .
Did you find and correct the condition?		 Go to Step 23  Go to Step 12 
12 Test for a poor connection, short to ground or an open in the wiper high speed relay control circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .
Did you find and correct the condition?		 Go to Step 23  Go to Step 21

  1. Disconnect the windshield wiper motor.
  2. Using a test lamp connected to ground, probe the windshield wiper motor low speed circuit.
  3. Turn the ignition to the ON position.
  4. Turn the wiper switch to a low position.
Does the test lamp illuminate?		 Go to Step 19  Go to Step 14

  1. Connect the windshield wiper motor.
  2. Leave the windshield wiper switch in a low position.
  3. Disconnect the wiper high relay.
  4. Using a test lamp connected between battery positive voltage and the windshield wiper motor low control circuit.
Does the test lamp illuminate?		 Go to Step 16  Go to Step 15 
15 Test for a poor connection or an open in the windshield wiper motor low control circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .
Did you find and correct the condition?		 Go to Step 23  Go to Step 20

  1. Disconnect the windshield wiper/washer switch.
  2. Install the wiper high relay.
  3. Install a jumper between ground and the windshield wiper switch low signal circuit.
  4. Turn the ignition to the ON position.
Does the windshield wiper turn ON in a low position?		 Go to Step 18  Go to Step 17 
17 Test for a poor connection or an open in the windshield wiper switch low signal circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .
Did you find and correct the condition?		 Go to Step 23  Go to Step 21 
18 Replace the windshield wiper/washer switch. Refer to Wipers/Washer Switch Replacement .
Did you complete the replacement?		 Go to Step 23  -
19 Replace the windshield wiper motor. Refer to Wiper Motor Replacement .
Did you complete the replacement?		 Go to Step 23  -
20 Replace the underhood fuse block. Refer to Underhood Electrical Center or Junction Block Replacement .
Did you complete the replacement?		 Go to Step 23  -
21 Replace the body control module (BCM). Refer to Control Module References for replacement, setup and programming.
Did you complete the replacement?		 Go to Step 23  -
22 Replace the wiper high relay. Refer to Relay Replacement (Within an Electrical Center) or Relay Replacement (Attached to Wire Harness) .
Did you complete the replacement?		 Go to Step 23  -
23 Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
Did you correct the condition?		 System OK Go to Step 3
