DEFINITION: The courtesy lamps are inoperative from the instrument panel (I/P) dimmer switch or a single courtesy lamp is inoperative from the switch on the courtesy lamp assembly.
1 Did you perform the Lighting System Diagnostic System Check? Go to Step 2  Go to Diagnostic System Check - Lighting Systems
2
  1. Turn the ignition to the ON position.
  2. Close all the doors and turn the I/P lamp dimmer switch to the DOME position.
  3. Determine if all the following lamps operate from the I/P dimmer switch:
    • Dome lamp
    • I/P courtesy lamps
    • Roof rail courtesy/reading lamp
    • Inside rear view mirror
Are all these courtesy lamps ON?
Go to Step 3  Go to Step 4
3
  1. Close all the doors and turn the I/P lamp dimmer switch to the OFF position.
  2. Operate the following lamps from their individual switches:
    • Roof rail courtesy/reading lamp
    • Inside rear view mirror
Are the courtesy lamps operational from their individual switches?
Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems Go to Step 9
4 Determine which of the following lamps are inoperative from the I/P dimmer switch:
  • Dome lamp
  • I/P courtesy lamps
  • Roof rail courtesy/reading lamp
  • Inside rear view mirror

Are all of these lamps inoperative from the I/P dimmer switch?
Go to Step 5  Go to Step 8
5
  1. Turn ignition switch to the RUN position, with the engine OFF.
  2. With a scan tool, observe the Courtesy Switch Input data.
  3. Turn the I/P lamp dimmer switch to the DOME position.
Does the scan tool indicate that the courtesy switch input is ON?
Go to Step 12  Go to Step 6
6
  1. Turn ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Disconnect the headlamp switch connector.
  3. Turn ignition switch to the RUN position, with the engine OFF.
  4. Probe the ground circuit for the I/P dimmer switch with a test lamp that is connected to battery voltage.
Does the test lamp illuminate?
Go to Step 7  Go to Step 16
7
  1. Connect a fused jumper between the ground circuit and the courtesy lamp switch signal circuit of the I/P dimmer switch.
  2. With a scan tool, observe the Courtesy Switch Input data.
Does the scan tool indicate that the courtesy switch input is ON?
Go to Step 15  Go to Step 17
8
  1. Determine which courtesy lamp is inoperative.
  2. Remove the inoperative courtesy lamp bulb.
  3. Using a test lamp probe between the courtesy lamps supply voltage circuit and the courtesy lamp low control circuit of the inoperative courtesy bulb socket.
Does the test lamp illuminate?
