Test I: Chime Always On

If audible warning systems diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If audible warning systems diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform audible warnings system diagnostic system check. See AUDIBLE WARNINGS SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
If no indicators illuminate when chime sounds, go to next step. If any indicators illuminate when chime sounds, diagnose by symptom. See SYMPTOM INDEX table.
Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Remove key from ignition lock cylinder. Turn headlight switch to OFF position. Open driver door. If chime sounds, go to next step. If chime does not sound, go to DIAGNOSING INTERMITTENTS .
Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. See Figure . Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, perform CHIME TEST in BCM OUTPUT CONTROLS. If chime stops sounding when OFF is selected, go to next step. If chime does not stop sounding when OFF is selected, go to step 16 .
Using scan tool, observe LIGHTS ON CHIME parameter in BCM INPUTS data list. If scan tool displays OFF, go to next step. If scan tool does not display OFF, go to step 7 .
Close driver door. Using scan tool, observe DRIVER DOOR SWITCH parameter in BCM INPUTS data list. If scan tool displays CLOSED, go to step 8 . If scan tool does not display CLOSED, repair courtesy light problem as necessary. See appropriate ILLUMINATION/INTERIOR LIGHTS article.
Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) Black harness connector C3. BCM is located behind left side of instrument panel, to left of steering column. See Figure . Connect a test light between ground and BCM harness connector C3 terminal A2 (Light Blue wire). See Figure . If test light does not illuminate, go to step 9 . If test light illuminates, go to step 16 .
Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Remove ignition key from ignition lock cylinder. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) Purple harness connector C2. BCM is located behind left side of instrument panel, to left of steering column. See Figure . Connect a test light between battery voltage and BCM harness connector C2 terminal A1 (Light Green wire). See Figure . If test light illuminates, go to step 11 . If test light does not illuminate, go to step 16 .
Test Light Blue wire between BCM and headlight switch for open, high resistance or short to ground. If open, high resistance or short to ground is not found, go to next step. If open, high resistance or short to ground is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 17 .
Test Orange wire between headlight switch and instrument panel fuse block for open or high resistance. If open or high resistance is not found, go to step 12 . If open or high resistance is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 17 .
Test Light Green wire between BCM and ignition switch for short to ground. If short to ground is not found, go to step 13 . If short to ground is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 17 .
Check for poor connections at headlight switch harness connector. If poor connections are not found, go to step 14 . If poor connections are found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 17 .
Check for poor connections at ignition switch harness connector. If poor connections are not found, go to step 15 . If poor connections are found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 17 .

NOTE: Headlight switch is part of multifunction switch.

Replace multifunction switch. See appropriate STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article. After repair, go to step 17 .
Replace ignition switch. See IGNITION & KEY ALARM SWITCH ASSEMBLY under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to step 17 .
Replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to next step.
Operate system to verify repair. If system does not operate properly, go to step 3 . If system operates properly, system is okay.
