Installing left exhaust turbocharger

- Loosen screws (2).
- Detach oil return line (1).
- Ensure that the sealing surfaces in the area of the oil return line are planar and free from oil and grease.
- Replace the seal (3).

- Position screws (2).
- Slide seal (1) onto the screws (2).
- Position the oil return line (1).
- Tighten screws (2) with an electronic torque wrench with tightening angle display.
A support person is required so that the screws can be tightened correctly.

Replace screws.Joining torque 5 Nm Angle of rotation 60° - Make sure that the seal (3) does not fall out during the feed in.
- Check oil feed line for contamination or obstruction and clean or replace if necessary.
- Replace engine oil and the oil filter if the oil feed line is heavily contaminated.
- Check the clean air ducts on the intake side and charge air cooler for contamination or foreign bodies and clean if necessary.
- If installed: Check the coolant feed lines and coolant return lines for the exhaust turbocharger for contamination or obstruction and clean or replace if necessary.
- Check that screw connections and plug connections for all lines are correct.
- Check the air filter for contamination and clean or replace if necessary.
- Check correct functioning of crankcase ventilation.
- Replace all gaskets.

- Replace O-ring (1).

- Make sure that the O-ring (1) does not fall into the oil duct in the engine block.
If the O-ring (1) cannot be removed, the oil return cover must be removed.
- Coat O-ring (1) with engine oil.ENGINE OIL DESCRIPTION
Technically suitable engine oils for BMW Group engines - Thread in exhaust turbocharger with oil return line in downward direction and position it.
- Make sure the oil return line is not mechanically deformed.
- Connect connectors (1) and lock.
- Replace the V-clip (2).
Parts: V-band clamp
- Position V-clip (2).
- Hand-tighten the bolt (1).
- Position special tool 2 249 171 (2) on cylinder head covers.
- Tighten special tool 2 249 171
(2) with screws (1) on cylinder head covers. Note the screw length while doing so.TIGHTENING TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS
Gauge of exhaust turbocharger to cylinder head cover screw Tightening torque 10 Nm - Bring the screw (1) of the setting gauge into contact with exhaust turbocharger (2) by hand.
- Exhaust turbocharger (2) must be aligned on vertical axis on left and right.
- Adjust exhaust turbocharger (2) parallel to setting gauge.
- Tighten screw (1) on the V-clip.TIGHTENING TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS
Exhaust turbocharger to exhaust manifold V-band clamp
Replace V-band clamp.Tightening torque 9 Nm Tightening torque 20 Nm - Check if the screw connection of the V-band clamp is too loose.
- If a gap can be seen between the ends of the V-ribbon clips: Loosen the screw and tighten again.
- Check if the screw connection of the V-band clamp is too tight.
- If the ends of the V-band clamp are positioned one below the other: Loosen screws and retighten.
- Make sure that the ends of the V-band clamp are parallel to each other.
- Loosen screws (1).
- Remove special tool 2 249 171
(2).
- Tighten down screw (1).TIGHTENING TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS
Oil return line to crankcase screw Tightening torque 10 Nm - Push hose clamps (1) onto hoses.
- Push the hoses onto the connections.
- Secure hose clamps (1).
- Replace the screw (1).

- When installing sealing rings without installation aid (bar), both sealing rings must be replaced.
- Position screw (1) with the sealing ring or sealing rings (2) on the oil feed line.
- Position oil feed line.
- Determining the screw type and selecting the appropriate socket wrench:

Remove the battery cover .

- Install the cover (2).
- Lock the lock (1).
