31 10 001 Completely removing and installing front axle with engine and transmission (M240i xDrive)
Preliminary work needed:
- Disconnect cable from battery earth lead
- Place hood in service position
- Suction the air conditioning
- Remove E-box
- Remove thrust field
- Removing underbody protection at front, center, and rear
- Remove transmission oil cooler
- Removing the coolant radiator
- Remove both module holders for the coolant radiator
- Remove intake silencer housing
- Remove clean air pipe
- Remove condenser
- Disconnecting positive battery cable in engine compartment
- Release vacuum hose on the brake booster
- Release fuel supply line
- Removing purge air line
- Disconnect intake pipe, air conditioning compressor on refrigerant line
- Remove the charge air pipe
- Remove prop shaft
- Fully remove both front wheel arch covers
- Remove both front crash wedges (US model only)
- Remove both front covers on the front vehicle underbody
- Remove the rear left and right brake air shaft
- Disconnecting EPS cable on front subframe
- Releasing lower steering shaft to steering gear
- Removing transmission bearing support
- Disconnecting grounding cable on transmission
- Loosening and tying up brake caliper, left and right
- Releasing wheel RPM sensor, right and left
Attention!
Coordinate determination always begins at the top.
Position engine assembly on table top A .
Position transmission on table top B .
Length of table top can be adjusted (see arrow).
Structure of table lift.
Position the attachment elements with the mounts (60) on the work surface A at the coordinates 8/3 and 7/7 .
Position mount (10) on the work surface A for the swivel bearings at coordinates 4/1 and 5/8 .
Position the mounting elements with the mounts (70) on the work surface A at the coordinates 2/1 and 2/8 .
Position the attachment elements with the mounts (80) on the work surface B at the coordinates 9/3 and 9/5 .
Position the attachment elements with the mounts (60) on the work surface B at the coordinates 2/3 and 3/7 .
Attention!
Removal weight approx. 150 kg to 300 kg.
Check the payload of the vehicle and unload as needed.
Load front footwell with sandbags if necessary, approx. 100 kg.
Note safety instructions of TABLE LIFT .
Position mounting elements (1) with the mounts (60), front left and right, at the front subframe.
Position mounting elements with the mounts (70), rear left and right, at the front subframe.
Position mounting elements with the mount (80) at the transmission.
Position the mounting elements with the mounts (60) at the transmission cross member.
Attach the mount for the swivel bearing (1) to the brake disc with lug bolts (2).
Secure adjustment screw (3).
- Release the spring struts
- Disassemble the front axle support
- Detach transmission cross member
- Drain lifting table slowly and ensure free movement of all components
