Grease the threads of new oxygen sensors thinly and evenly.
For oxygen sensors that are reused, the following should be observed:
Thinly and evenly grease the oxygen sensor on the thread only. Do not clean the part of the oxygen sensor that does not protrude into the exhaust line (sensor ceramics) and do not grease.

- Removing the undershield on the left fuel tank.
- Loosen screws (1).
- Loosen screws (2).
- Remove the undershield (1) at the fuel tank on the left.
- Refer to REMOVING UNDERSHIELD ON THE FUEL TANK ON THE RIGHT .
- Refer to REMOVING REINFORCEMENT STRUT .
- Removing rear tunnel connecting support.
- Loosen screws (1).
- Loosen screws (2).
- Removing rear tunnel connecting support(3).

- Removing the cover of the rear right engine compartment.
- Loosen the lock (1).
- Remove the cover (2).

After completion of the work, program the control unit for the electronic gearbox control (EGS).

- Replace clamps (arrows) of sound insulation on the right.

After disassembling the transportation retainer, secure the torque converter against slipping out.

- Disassemble transportation retainers.
- Remount all cable clips.
- Remount all seal plugs.
- Remount protective cap on output shaft.
- Remount transfer box.
- Make note of transmission identification (see applicable BMW Group parts catalogue and nameplate).

- Clip the wiring harness (2) into the clamps (1).
- Installing cable duct at cylinder bank 1.
- Position the conduit (2).
- Tighten the screws (1).

- Installing the cover panel of the master DME control unit.
- Position the cover of the master DME control unit (1).
- Engage the cover panel of the master DME control unit (1) downwards with the clamps (2) and the guide pins (3) in the carrier plate of the DME.
- Refer to INSTALLING THE CENTER COWL UPPER PART .
- Refer to INSTALLING TENSION STRUT ON SHOCK TOWER .

- Installing the rear right engine compartment cover.
Remove the battery cover .
NOTE: The following step(s) must be performed if the listed component(s) is/are installed.- Remove the special tool 2 452 007 from the battery.
- Install the cover (2).
- Lock the lock (1).
- Refer to INSTALLING THE COVER OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT ON THE REAR LEFT .
- Refer to INSTALLING EXHAUST SYSTEM .
- Installing the rear tunnel connecting support.
- Position the connecting support (3) on the rear of the tunnel.
- Tighten the screws (1).TIGHTENING TORQUES
