Removing the convertible top fabric

Precondition

Battery charger connected.

Preliminary work

Refer to REMOVING THE SEAL FOR THE WINDSHIELD PANEL .
Refer to REMOVING THE SEAL FOR THE CONVERTIBLE TOP BRACE .

CAUTION: Folding up of convertible top through loss of pressure in hydraulic cylinders.
Injury hazard! Injury hazard by trapping!

When carrying out all repair work, secure soft top and soft top compartment lid with a suitable support tool against collapsing. Ensure soft top is supported in the middle.

Move the convertible top (1) in a half opened position.
If necessary, secure the convertible top (1) from collapsing with the support 2 452 010 .
Detach adhesive tape (1) from the left and right of convertible top bow (2).

Release the convertible top fabric (1) from the convertible top bow and fold it upwards in arrow direction.

NOTE: Perform the steps on the left and right side.
Release adhesive tape (1).

Remove retaining clip (1).
Detach tension cable (2).

Fold back convertible top fabric (1) further.
Guide out edge stripping (2) from convertible top bow (3).

Release wiring harness (1) from hook and loop fasteners (2).

Fold back convertible top fabric (1).
Release the retaining clip (2).
Guide out bolt (3).
Remove retaining strap (4).

Fold back convertible top fabric (1) further.
Guide out edge stripping (2) from convertible top bow (3).

Feed out the convertible top fabric (1) on the convertible top bow (2) and fold it upwards in arrow direction.

Detach the convertible top fabric (1) at the retaining tabs (2) in arrow direction and feed it out.

Guide out retaining strap (1) from convertible top fabric (2).

Disconnect plug connection (1).
Guide out wiring harness (2) from retaining tabs (3).

Release blind rivet (1).
Guide out retaining straps (2).

Mark the position of screws (1) on the left and right of the convertible top linkage.
Guide out and remove convertible top fabric (2) with convertible top bow (3) with the help of a support person.

Release convertible top bow (1) from clamps (2) and detach it from convertible top fabric (3).
Disconnect and guide out cable (4).
