Removing the windshield (safety vehicle)

- Leave the electrical components in their original packaging until they are being installed. Only use the original packaging for returning the product. Always package removed components straight away.
- Read and comply with user information on using the associated special tool 12 7 060.
- Only tap the housings of electrical components. Do not tap pins or multi-pin connectors directly.
- Wear electrically conductive clothing and antistatic shoes (with ESD symbol).

- Remove and install heavy components with the aid of another person/other persons.
NOTE:
The operations shown only for one side must be carried out on both sides.
- Loosen nuts (1).
- Remove the mounting plate (2).

- Guide out retaining tabs (2).
- If necessary, disconnect any plug connections of the heated windshield in areas (1).
- Tie back the unplugged cables with adhesive tape.
- Connect rubber seal (1) in the area (2) and lock.
- Protect windshield and roof outer skin against damage with plastic adhesive tape in areas (1) as shown.

- If necessary, pull wiring harness (1) to the side and fix with plastic adhesive tape.
- Protect both upper corners of the side panels (2) on the left and right sides against damage with plastic adhesive tape.

- Mount a U-shaped knife (approx. 25 mm blade length, sourcing reference BMW Group parts sales) on the tool.
- Sharpen knife blade on a running machine with the grinding stone (even with new knife blade).
- Insert the knife carefully between the windshield and the body.
- Run blade of knife parallel to windshield. Cut through adhesive bead as closely as possible to windshield.
- Make absolutely sure that the windshield is not damaged when cutting it out.
- Only cut through the adhesive beads at the marked areas (1).
- Position the special tool 0 494 821 (51 0 100) over the windshield.
- Lower the special tool 0 494 850 (51 0 104).
- Release the clamping bolt (1) on the left and right.
- Align the angle of the special tool 0 494 850 (51 0 104) roughly with the windshield.
- Position the special tool 0 494 850 (51 0 104) on the windshield such that the 4 suction cups rest on the upper part of the windshield.
- Turn on the vacuum pump close the valve (1).
NOTE:
TECHNICAL INFORMATION
It is mandatory to observe the operating instructions for the special tool used.

- Ensure that the needle (1) of the vacuum gauge lies in the green area.
- Carefully lift the windshield (1) in the upper area approx. 1 cm in direction of the arrow.
- Cut through the remaining adhesive bead in the lower corners (1) on the left and right side with the cutting wire (2).
- Lift windshield slightly with special tool 0 494 850 (51 0 104) in the direction of the arrow.
- Check if the adhesive bead has been correctly cut through all around.
- If necessary, carefully release or partially recut any adhesive residues when lifting.
- Lift windshield further forward with the special tool 0 494 850 (51 0 104) and carefully guide out in the direction of the arrow.
- Secure windshield against falling with cargo straps (1).

- It is mandatory to turn the windshield over (while supporting it) and place it on the outer side before storing it for extended periods.
- Retract the special tool 0 494 821 (51 0 100) with the windshield.
- Release the clamping bolt (1) on the left and right and align the windshield horizontally.
- Swivel the cargo straps (2) over the windshield.
- Lower the windshield over the prepared storage box (3) and place it into it.
- Open the valve and turn off the vacuum pump.
