Removing airbag unit (vehicles with M Sport steering wheel)

- Before performing any work on the airbag, always disconnect the battery ground lead from the battery.
- Airbag unit may only be set down with the cushion (airbag itself) facing upwards.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION
After replacing the airbag unit (M Sport steering wheel) or possibly converting the standard steering wheel and airbag unit on the M Sport steering wheel, a software update or a programming/coding via ISTA must be performed.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION
The steering wheel and horn plate must be replaced if the airbag unit has been
deployed.
Check all steering wheel attachments (such as switches, cover, shift paddles, wiring harness) for damage and replace if necessary!

NOTE:
RISK OF DAMAGE
Damage to the steering wheel.
Incorrect handling of the tool may damage the steering wheel.

- Make sure the position (angle and inclination) of the tool is correct.
- When unlocking, do not use "levering" action. Instead, press in the Torx screwdriver toward the center of steering wheel only.
- Locate the pre-punched hole (1) on the rear of the steering wheel by feel.
- Insert the Torx screwdriver T27 diagonally upwards in the pre-punched hole (1) on the rear of the steering wheel until a springing kind of resistance can be felt.NOTE: To provide a better overview: Schematic diagram with airbag unit removed.
- Press in Torx screwdriver T27 (1) straight in the direction of the arrow towards the center of the steering wheel in order to unlock the wire spring (2) or to unlock the airbag unit.
- Press in Torx screwdriver T27 (1) straight in the direction of the arrow towards the center of the steering wheel and lift up the airbag unit.
- Repeat procedure on left side and carefully remove airbag unit (2) in the direction of the arrow.
- Unlock and disconnect the plug connection (1) and remove the airbag unit.
