Installing steering shaft, bottom

• Position the steering shaft, bottom, (1) in the arrow direction.

  » Securing the steering shaft, bottom, to the steering column 

• Pull the steering column (3) out to its maximum length.
• Push the lower steering shaft (2) onto the steering column (3) in the arrow direction.
• Replace the clamping bolt (1).

  Parts  : Clamping bolt

• Tighten the clamping bolt (1).
  TIGHTENING TORQUES SPECIFICATION
  
  

  Lower steering shaft to steering column
  Clamping bolt M8 Recut screw thread. Replace clamping bolt. No retorque permitted!	Tightening torque	28 Nm

  » Install steering shaft at bottom on steering gear 

  NOTE: TECHNICAL INFORMATION 
  The universal joint can be mounted only in one position.
  The universal joint and the steering gear or the steering shaft at the bottom are encoded to one another.
  The clamping bolt must be positioned in the groove of the steering gear or the steering shaft.
• Clean the screw threads to remove all remnants of screw lock agent.
• Slide the lower steering shaft (2) onto the steering gear in the direction of the arrow.
• Replace the clamping bolt (1). Parts: Clamping bolt
• Tighten the clamping bolt (1).

  Lower steering shaft to steering gear
  M8 Recut screw thread. Replace clamping bolt. No retorque permitted!	Tightening torque	28 Nm

Follow-up work 

• Install the left steering assembly COVER .
• Install rear UNDERBODY PROTECTION .
• Install the center UNDERBODY PROTECTION .
• Check the AIRBAG for function.
• Check the straight-ahead driving position of the STEERING WHEEL .
