Tightening the VANOS central valve

• Have the special tool 2 469 138  ready.

• Have all the special tools and commercially available tools ready.

• Assemble all the special tools and commercially available tools as shown.

• Use the reversible ratchet (2) from the special tool 0 496 855  with the special tool 2 450 487  to tighten the VANOS central valve (1).

• Use special tool 0 496 855  to tighten the VANOS central valve (1).

• Tighten the VANOS central valve of the intake adjuster (1) with special tool 0 496 855  or 2 450 487  .
  TIGHTENING TORQUES SPECIFICATION
  
  

  VANOS central valve to camshaft
  M12 x 1	1. Joining torque	30 Nm
  	2. Joining torque	50 Nm
  	3. Angle of rotation	65°
  M21 VANOS central valve on the thread and on the contact surface must be coated with engine oil.	Joining torque	50 Nm
  	Tightening torque	140 Nm
  M22 VANOS central valve on the thread and on the contact surface must be coated with engine oil.	Joining torque	50 Nm
  	Tightening torque	140 Nm

• Tighten VANOS central valve of the exhaust camshaft adjuster (1) with the special tool 0 496 855  .

Follow-up work 

• Crank ENGINE twice (automatic transmission).
• Install STARTER MOTOR .
• Install cylinder head COVER .
• Install both ACTUATORS .
• PREPARE the injectors for installation.
• Install the RAIL .
• Install HIGH PRESSURE PUMP .
• Install FUEL DELIVERY LINE .
• Install the HIGH-PRESSURE LINE between the high-pressure pump and the high-pressure rail.
• Install all SPARK PLUGS .
• Install the IGNITION COILS .
• Install the cylinder head cover ACOUSTIC COVER .
• Install the engine front ACOUSTIC COVER .
• Install charge AIR LINE .
• Install clean AIR PIPE .
• Install intake silencer HOUSING .
• Install RESONATOR .
• Disconnect all battery GROUND LEADS
• Check engine OIL LEVEL .
• Install the underneath second end PANEL .
• Install right sealing FRAME .
• Install rear ACOUSTIC COVER .
• Install the upper part COWL .
• Install left and right shock tower TENSION STRUT .
• Install windshield panel COVER .
• Install left and right WIPER ARM .
• Install the rear left engine compartment COVER .
• Install the rear right engine compartment COVER .
• Install the front hood rear SEAL .
• Install the front UNDERBODY PROTECTION .
• Install rear UNDERBODY PROTECTION .
• Install the center UNDERBODY PROTECTION .
• Install ACOUSTIC COVER .
• Take hood out of the SERVICE POSITION .
