11 13 000 Removing and installing, sealing or replacing oil sump (B48AO0)

Special tools required:

Necessary preliminary work:

Disconnect NEGATIVE BATTERY LEAD
Remove FAN COWL (automatic only)
Remove RIGHT CHARGE-AIR DUCT
Remove STARTER MOTOR
Remove the HOLDER
Remove GEARBOX OIL COOLER (only automatic)
Drain off ENGINE OIL

CAUTION: Engines with surface sealant:
Application time of sealing bead max . 12 minutes.

Removal:

Release tank ventilation line (1) at clamp (2).

Disconnect tank ventilation line (1) at connection (2).

Unlock and disconnect connector (1) for oil-level sensor.

Release screw (2).

Remove cable routing (3).

Disengage the positive battery cable on the clamp (4).

Release screws (1) from transmission.

Release screws (2-20).

Engine with liquid sealing compound:

CAUTION: The oil sump can only be loosened in the areas (1) where an aperture is present in the oil sump.

Use a mounting lever (1) to release oil sump in direction of arrow at the correct location.

Preparation for installation:

Clean sealing residues from oil sump and crankcase.

CAUTION: Do not use any metal-cutting tools (e.g. emery cloth).

Clean sealing residue off sealing surface (1) using special tools 11 4 472 and 11 4 472.

Installation note:

Clean sealing surface (1) with brake cleaner 3.3 .

Sealing surface (1) must be free of oil, grease and cleaning agents.

Installation note:

Position sealing compound (1) on special tool 2 469 803 as shown.

Parts: SEALING COMPOUND 2.2

Apply SEALING COMPOUND 2.2 in this area (1).

Make sure that the sealing bead runs along the inner edge.

The oil return orifice (arrow) must be rounded completely.

NOTE: The oil sump must be installed approximately 10 minutes after application of the sealing compound.

Sealant height approximately 2 to 2.5 mm.

Installation:

Installation note:

Special tool 11 8 780 is only necessary if the engine or the transmission is removed.

Position special tool 11 8 780 with transmission bolts (1) so that engine oil sump is exactly flush with engine block.

If necessary, replace fitting sleeves.

CAUTION: Installing screws with an incorrect screw length may cause damage to the component.
Observe exact screw lengths.
Reinstall screws corresponding to the original screw length.
The oil sump may be damaged when using the incorrect screw length!

Ensure that the correct screw (2) (M8x40) is used for mounting the oil sump on the transmission.

The screw (1) (mounting bolt of the starter motor) may never be used for mounting the oil sump.

NOTE: Tighten all screws (2-20) on oil sump to 5 N.m.
Join Torx screws (1) to 5 N.m.
Tighten down all screws on oil sump.
Tightening torque: 11 13 2AZ .
Tighten down Torx screws (1).
Tightening torque: 24 00 1AZ .

Clip in the positive battery cable in the clamp (4).

Properly route the cable at the oil sump.

Position cable routing (3) and fasten with screw (2).

Connect connector (1) for oil-level sensor.

Connect tank ventilation line (1) at separation point (2).

Clip in the tank ventilation line (1) into the clamp (2).

Required follow-up work:

Install HOLDER
Install GEARBOX OIL COOLER (only automatic)
Install STARTER MOTOR
Install RIGHT CHARGE AIR LINE
Install FAN COWL (automatic only)
Top up ENGINE OIL
Connect NEGATIVE BATTERY LEAD
Check engine for leak tightness
