Removing the convertible top fabric

Precondition 

• Battery charger connected.
  CAUTION: Folding up of convertible top through loss of pressure in hydraulic cylinders  .
  Injury hazard! Injury hazard by trapping! 

  • When carrying out all repair work, secure soft top and soft top compartment lid with a suitable support tool against collapsing. Ensure soft top is supported in the middle.

Preliminary work 

• Refer to REMOVING WINDSHIELD PANEL TRIM .
• Refer to REMOVING HEADLINING .
• Refer to REMOVING THE SEAL FOR THE WINDSHIELD PANEL .
• Refer to REMOVING THE SEALING CARRIER OF THE LEFT-HAND AND RIGHT-HAND WINDSHIELD PANEL SEALS .
• Refer to REMOVING SEAL FOR THE REAR ROOF FRAME .

• Release the wiring harness (1) from the loops (2) on the convertible top fabric (3).

• Loosen screw (1).
• Feed the convertible top fabric (2) outwards from the convertible top bow (3).

• Detach the convertible top fabric (1) along the marked area on the retaining clips (2) and feed out from convertible top bow.

• Detach the tension cable (1) from the convertible top bow (2).

• Fold back the convertible top fabric (1) towards the rear.
• Feed out the retaining straps (2) from the convertible top bow (3).

• Detach the convertible top fabric (1) for the retaining strip from the convertible top bow (2).

• Release the blind rivet (1) and remove the convertible top fabric (2).

  NOTE: Perform the steps on the right and left side.
• Loosen blind rivet (1).
• Remove the retaining tab (2) and the tension cable (3).

• Detach the tension spring (1).
• Unthread the retaining tab (2) from the convertible top linkage (3).

• Release the convertible top fabric (1) from the edge stripping (2) in the marked area, and fold it upwards.

  NOTE: Perform the steps on the left and right side.
• Loosen screw (1).
• Unlock and disconnect plug connection (2) at the rear window (3).

• Release the screw (1) and feed out the tension cable (2).

• Unthread the tension cable (1) from the convertible top fabric (2) and from the convertible top frame (3).

• Manually close the convertible top.
• Fold up convertible top fabric (1) as shown.
• Feed out tensioning strap (2) in the direction of the arrow from the convertible top bow (3).

• Slide convertible top fabric (1) with a support person in the direction of the arrow to the left side.
• While doing so, unthread the convertible top fabric (1) on the edge stripping from the convertible top bow (2).
• Remove the convertible top fabric (1) and set it aside.
