Install Trunk Lid (For Replacement)

CAUTION: Shutting hood or trunk lid .
Injury hazard!

Support hood/trunk lid in fully open position with the aid of a suitable device.

NOTE: Perform the steps on the right and left side.

With the help of a second person, position the trunk lid (2) on the hinge on both sides.
Hand-tighten the bolts (1).
NOTE: Attach the trunk lid at the screw imprints on the hinge.
Position ground cable (3).
Tighten the nut (4) hand-tight.

Press the hydraulic cylinder (1) on the right side of the trunk lid with the ball socket in the direction of the arrow onto the upper ball hub (2) of the trunk lid until the retaining clip properly and audibly engages.
Ensure that the leftside of the trunk lid is positioned in the retaining fields (2) of the spring support (1) in its starting position.

Press the ball socket of the spring support (1) on the leftside of the trunk lid in the direction of the arrow onto the ball hub (2), until the retaining spring engages properly and audibly.
Feed the wiring harnesses (1) and (2) into the trunk lid.
Clip in all the brackets (arrows) of the wiring harnesses (1) and (2).
Connect all connectors and lock.
Insert rubber grommets (3) into the trunk lid.

Thread the wiring harness (2) into the trunk lid and insert the rubber grommet (1).

Adjust trunk lid

Check

Check the gap dimensions (arrows) between the tailgate and convertible top compartment lid.

Result

» If the gap dimensions between the trunk lid and convertible top compartment lid or between the trunk lid and rear side panels do not meet the specifications.

Measure

Adjust the trunk lid on the tailgate hinge.

Remove striker for the tailgate latch

Loosen screws (1).
Remove striker for the tailgate latch (2).

NOTE: Perform the steps on the right and left side.
Loosen nut (4).
(3) Remove ground cable.
Slacken screws (1) until the trunk lid (2) can be shifted.
Move the trunk lid (2) longitudinally and transversely until the trunk lid (2) has the specified gap dimensions to the convertible top compartment lid and rear side panels.

Tighten the screws (1) on the trunk lid (2).

TIGHTENING TORQUES SPECIFICATION

Tailgate hinge on trunk lid
Hexagon screw, MS x18
	Tightening torque	19 Nm

Position ground cable (3).

Tighten nut (4).

TIGHTENING TORQUES SPECIFICATION

Ground cable on tailgate hinge
Hexagon nut with washer
	tightening torque	2.3 Nm

Install striker for the tailgate latch

Position striker for the tailgate latch (2) and tighten the screws (1).

TIGHTENING TORQUES SPECIFICATION

Striker to rear lid
Hexagon screw M8x20
	Tightening torque	19 Nm

Adjust the lower part of the tailgate lock lower section

Check

Check the gap dimensions (arrows) between the trunk lid and rear bumper cover.

Result

» The gap dimensions between the trunk lid and the read bumper cover do not meet the specifications.

Measure

Adjust the lower part of the tailgate lock.

Lever out the covers (1) with a suitable screwdriver and remove.
Loosen screws (2) until the tailgate lock can be shifted.
Adjust tailgate lock so that the tailgate has the predefined gap dimension relative to the rear bumper panel.

	Tightening torque	19 Nm

Adjust the stop pad (1) of the trunk lid by twisting it.
