Adjusting door window glass

Precondition

Side window glass is open.

NOTE: RISK OF DAMAGE
Careless handling of tools and sharp-edged components .
Scratches, surface damage .

Protect working area.
Handle tools and components carefully.

NOTE: Description is for left component only. Procedure on the right side is identical.

Preliminary work

Refer to PREPARING THE SPECIAL TOOL .
Refer to REMOVING THE OUTER FRONT WINDOW CHANNEL STRIP .
Refer to RELEASING THE FRONT DOOR WINDOW GLASS .

Precondition

Vehicle stands on all wheels on level ground.

Front door correctly fitted.

The battery charger is connected (only with external voltage supply during the adjustment work is the full operability of the power electric windows assured).

NOTE: Schematic diagram is for example purposes. Some parts may differ in certain details.

Open the door, if necessary move the door window glass to the top-most position.
Insert the special tool 0 496 693 (51 0 370) into the rotary striker of the door lock and manually lock the rotary striker (door window glass moves all the way up).
Close the door carefully until the special tool 0 496 693 (51 0 370) adheres magnetically to the striker (defined opening angle for the measurement).

Do not exert any force on the door or the door window glass during measurement.
Insert special tool 0 496 456 (51 0 342) into the seal (1) as shown.
Abut special tool 0 496 456 (51 0 342) to the seal (1) and the door window glass (2).
Determine the dimension for the preload between the seal (1) and the outer edge of the door window glass (2).
Nominal dimension = 58 ± 1 mm

Open door and remove sealing cap on door window frame.
Guide special tool 2 351 398 into the door and set it on the nut (1) and guide (2).
Slacken nut (1) with knob (3).
Set the preload by turning the lever (4).
Nominal dimension = 58 ± 1 mm

Tighten nut (1).

TIGHTENING TORQUES SPECIFICATION

Power electric windows to door
Nut M6	Tightening torque	9.5 Nm

Check setting, repeat process if necessary.
Remove special tool 2 351 398 and mount the sealing cap.
Remove the special tool 0 496 693 (51 0 370) from the rotary striker of the door lock.
Insert the special tool 2 356 862 with holder (5 mm) (1) to the door window glass in a locked state (A).
Close the door and release the lock (2) (B).

Open door.
Place the special tool 2 356 862 on the door window glass as shown.
Offset each approx. 7 cm towards the inner or front approx. 7 cm towards the top.
Carefully close the door.
Measure retraction depth
Nominal dimension (A): 20.5 ± 1 mm

Nominal dimension (B): 5 ± 1 mm

Nominal dimension (C): 9.5 ± 1 mm

Make sure that you measure against the seal at the upper measuring point (C) and not against the convertible top fabric.
Measure at the front measuring point (A) against the sealing edge of the rubber window seal as shown.
Attach the special tool 2 359 976 to the door window glass in such a way that the multi-tooth screws on the door window glass are still accessible.
Release adjustment lever (1) by twisting.
Set the retraction depth of the side window by shifting the adjustment lever (1).
Nominal dimension A: 20.5 ± 1 mm

Nominal dimension B: 5 ± 1 mm

Nominal dimension C: 9.5 ± 1 mm
Tighten adjustment lever (1).

Tighten the front door window glass

NOTE: Schematic diagram is for example purposes. Some parts may differ in certain details.

Tighten the multi-tooth screws (1) on the door window glass with the special tool 2 360 051 B and a torque wrench.

TIGHTENING TORQUES SPECIFICATION

Multi-tooth screw for side window glass
Multipoint screw	Tightening torque	9 Nm
