Replace Trunk Lid

Preliminary work 

• Refer to REMOVE TAILGATE TRIM PANEL .
• Refer to REMOVING THE LICENSE PLATE LIGHT ON THE LEFT AND RIGHT .
• Refer to REMOVING THE LEFT AND RIGHT TAIL LIGHTS ON THE TAILGATE
• Refer to REMOVE BRAKE LIGHT .
• Refer to REMOVING THE LEFT AND RIGHT MULTI BAND TELEPHONE ANTENNA .
• Refer to REMOVING BOTH ANTENNA AMPLIFIERS .
• Refer to REMOVE STRIKER FOR THE TAILGATE LATCH .
• Refer to REMOVE THE TAILGATE BUTTON .
• Refer to REMOVING THE GAS PRESSURE SPRING FOR TAILGATE .

Precondition 

New part is painted.

• Release the nozzles (1) at the tailgate.
• Release the wiring harnesses (2) at all the attachment points (arrows) from the tailgate and feed it out from the tailgate.

  • Mask those working areas at risk with yellow plastic adhesive tape.
  • Remove and install heavy or bulky components with the aid of another person/other persons.

• Release nuts (1) and set the ground cable (2) aside.
• Release screws (3) on the left and right of the tailgate hinge and remove the tailgate.
• Renew the tailgate.

  • Mask those working areas at risk with yellow plastic adhesive tape.
  • Remove and install heavy or bulky components with the aid of another person/other persons.
• Position the tailgate on the tailgate hinges.
• Tighten screws (3) on the left and right of the tailgate hinge.

  TIGHTENING TORQUE SPECIFICATION
  
  

  Tailgate hinge on trunk lid
  Hexagon screw, M8 x 18	Tightening torque	19 Nm

• Carefully close the tailgate and check for bodywork contact.

  If necessary, position the tailgate again.

• Secure the tailgate to prevent it from closing.
• Position ground cable (2) on the hinge and tighten nut (1).
  TIGHTENING TORQUE SPECIFICATION
  
  

  Ground cable to tailgate hinge
  Nut M5	Tightening torque	4.5 Nm

• Guide wiring harnesses (2) into the tailgate.
• Mount nozzles (1) on the tailgate. Ensure that the installation position is correct (watertightness).
• Secure wiring harnesses (2) to the tailgate at all the attachment points (arrows).

  NOTE: Perform the steps on the left and right side.
• Loosen screws (1).
• Release the holding clip (arrow) from the tailgate. Remount antenna adapter (2) on the new tailgate and secure it with the holding clip (arrow).
• Tighten down screw (1).

  TIGHTENING TORQUE SPECIFICATION
  
  

  Antenna adapter to tailgate
  Oval-head screw	Tightening torque	2.5 Nm

  NOTE: Perform the steps on the left and right side.
• Push through the pins (1) of the stop pad (2) and remove the stop pad (2).
• Mount the stop pad (2) to the new trunk lid.
• Drive in the pins (1) of the stop pad (2) until they are flush.

• Check clips (1) for license plate for damage, remount or renew if necessary.

• Remount sheet metal nuts (1) (arrows).
