Replacing gearshift rod joint

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

• Remove CROSS MEMBER .
• Remove propeller shaft. Refer to COMPLETELY REMOVE AND INSTALL THE PROPELLER SHAFT MADE OF STEEL (INSERTED AT THE REAR) or REMOVING AND INSTALLING CARBON PROPELLER SHAFT (INSERTED) COMPLETE .

Removal: 

Pull off retaining clip (3).

Pull gearshift rod (1) out of gearshift rod joint (2).

Lift spring circlip (3) from groove and move slightly.

Push out cylindrical pin (1) from gearshift rod joint (2) either upwards or downwards.

Remove gearshift rod joint (2).

Installation: 

Check rubber ring (1) in gearshift rod joint (2) and replace if necessary.

Install gearshift rod joint (2).

Push cylindrical pin (1) into gearshift rod joint (2) either from above or below.

Secure cylindrical pin (1) with spring circlip (3).

Part  : Replace spring circlamp (3).

Attach gearshift rod (1) to gearshift rod joint (2).

Insert retaining clip (3).

Grease gearshift rod pin.

Grease: refer to BMW SERVICE OPERATING FLUIDS .

Required follow-up work: 

• Install PROPELLER SHAFT .
• Install CROSS MEMBER .
