Removing and installing/replacing clutch

Special tools required: 

• 11 9 260
• 21 2180
• 2 348 126
• 2 349 693

Attention! 

Do not clean the clutch and flywheel with high pressure cleaner or a washing machine, as the proper function of the adjustment unit and damping springs can then no longer be guaranteed.

Clean friction surface only.

Check clutch for wear and damage and replace as necessary.

Necessary preliminary work: 

• Remove TRANSMISSION .

Removal: 

Lock flywheel (1) with special tool 11 9 260.

Insert special tool 21 2 180 in clutch.

Press special tool 21 2 180 together at handles (2) up to the limit position. Tighten knurled screws (1).

Adjustment ring of clutch is now secured in its original position (wear position).

Release screws and remove clutch from flywheel.

Installation (reinstalling removed clutch and clutch disc): 

Attention! 

When reinstalling the removed clutch, be sure when disassembling the clutch to use special tool 21 2 180.

Failure to comply with this instruction will result in total failure.

Install clutch disc (1) in correct position in clutch housing (2).

Attention! 

Install clutch disc in correct position.

Note designation for "engine side Transmission side"!

Handle clutch disc with care. Do not touch surfaces of friction linings.

Fit special tool 2 348 126 and tighten to the knurled screw (1).

Screw in the spindle (1) until the diaphragm spring (2) is preloaded up to the limit position.

Center clutch by special tool 2 349 693 on flywheel. Clutch must be secured by dowel pins (1).

Mount clutch (1) on flywheel.

Pay attention to dowel pins (2).

Clutch (1) must be secured by dowel pins (2).

Tighten the screws.

Part  : Replace screws.

Tightening torque:21 21 1AZ .

Release spindle (1) until load is fully removed from diaphragm spring (2).

Release knurled screw (1) and remove special tool 2 348 126 from clutch.

Mount clutch on flywheel and tighten screws.

Remove special tool 21 2 180.

Part  : Replace screws.

Tightening torque 21 21 1AZ .

Withdraw special tool from clutch disc with aid of accompanying screw (1).

Required follow-up work: 

• Install the TRANSMISSION .

Installation (installing new clutch): 

Attention! 

Stop may only be removed with clutch screwed down!

The CLUTCH OPERATOR  contained in the new replacement clutch set absolutely  must be installed.

Install clutch disc in correct position.

Pay attention to text "engine end"/"transmission side".

Handle clutch disc with care. Do not touch surfaces of friction linings.

Center clutch by special tool 2 349 693 on flywheel. Clutch must be secured by dowel pins (1).

Slide self-adjusting clutch onto dowel pins in flywheel and tighten screws.

Part  : Replace screws.

Tightening torque 21 21 1AZ .

Carefully unscrew stop (1) in clockwise or counter-clockwise direction using a hexagon socket wrench AF 14 (2).
