Replacing rear left or right side shock absorber (EDC)

Special tools required: 

• 2 360 213

Installation note: 

1. All screws, nuts, bolts and hose clamps removed during the repair must be replaced.
2. Retaining elements on chassis and suspension and steering parts must be replaced.

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

• Remove the SHOCK ABSORBER .

Removal: 

Release adapter plate (1) from support bearing.

Disconnect connector (2) from shock absorber.

Remove adapter plate (1).

Release nut (1) with special tool 2 360 213, reversible ratchet with extension and socket SW10 (3).

Remove spring strut mounting (2).

Check the sealing washers at the bottom (2) and top (1) of the adapter plate for damage.

Part:  If necessary, replace sealing washers (1) and (2).

Part:  Replace auxiliary damper with protective tube (1).

Mount auxiliary damper with protective tube (1) onto the shock absorber.

Position support bearing.

Part:  Replace nut (1).

Tighten down nut (1) with special tool 2 360 213, reversible ratchet with extension (3), socket SW10 and torque wrench with ring spanner attachment SW21.

Tightening torque 33 52 2AZ .

Impact screwdrivers are prohibited!

Risk of damage inside the shock absorber!

Plug in connector (2) to shock absorber.

Place adapter plate (1) on the support bearing.

• Ensure the sealing washers are positioned correctly!

Required follow-up work: 

• Install REAR SHOCK ABSORBER .
