Removing and installing, sealing or replacing oil sump (S55 engine)

Special tools required:

11 8 780

IMPORTANT: Aluminium screws/bolts must be replaced each time they are released .
For reliable identification:
Aluminium screws/bolts are not magnetic .
Jointing torque and angle of rotation must be observed without fail (risk of damage) .

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Drain and add ENGINE OIL .
Remove FRONT AXLE .

Release screws (1).

IMPORTANT: The oil lines can only be set aside under certain conditions risk of damage!

Release screw (1).

Release screw (1) and disconnect holder from engine support arm.

Release screw (2) and disconnect holder from engine support arm.

Release screws (3).

Remove engine support arm with engine mount.

Unclip electrical lines (2) of monitoring sensors from holder (3).

Disconnect plug connections (1) of monitoring sensors and lay to one side.

Release bolts (5) on gearbox.

Lay holder (3) to one side.

Disconnect plug connection (4) on oil level sensor.

Release bolts along line (1).

If necessary, remove oil level sensor.

Lever out oil sump (1) with a suitable screwdriver (2) in direction of arrow.

Installation note:

Replace all sealing rings and gaskets (1) .

Aluminium screws (2) M8x92 mm and M8x112 mm.

Tightening torque 11 13 3 AZ .

Aluminium screws (4) M8x26 mm.

Tightening torque 11 13 2AZ .

Installation.

Installation note:

Special tool 11 8 780 is only required if gear is not installed as mechanical stop.

Secure special tool 11 8 780 with two bolts on crankcase.

Engine removed:

Position oil sump (1) with no gaps up to limit position until it contacts special tool 11 8 780.

Installation note:

Engine installed:

Position oil sump (1) with no gaps up to limit position until it contacts transmission housing.

Screw oil sump (1).

Install screws along line (1).

If necessary, install oil-level sensor.

Tighten holder (3) with Torx screw.

Install screws (5) on transmission.

Tightening torque 11 13 5AZ .

Connect plug connection (4) on oil-level sensor.

Release screw (1) and disconnect holder from engine support arm.

Release screw (2) and disconnect holder from engine support arm.

Release screws (3).

Remove engine support arm with engine mount.

Tightening torque: 22 11 3AZ .

Assemble engine.
