Removing and installing/replacing catalytic converter with center silencer (S55 engine)

Danger of injury! 

Call on the assistance of a second person to remove the catalytic converter with center silencer.

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

• Use a suitable jack to support and secure the catalytic converter with center silencer against falling.

Removal:

Transfer separation point to faulty catalytic converter with center silencer and mark the position.

Secure catalytic converter with center silencer against falling.

Cut through exhaust pipes at marked point with a suitable tool.

Release screws (1).

Remove reinforcement plate (2).

Slacken nut (1).

Remove catalytic converter with center silencer.

Installation: 

Replace the gaskets (1).

Install exhaust system and connect to catalytic converter with the assistance of a second person.

Tighten nut (1).

Tightening torque 18 31 1AZ .

Tighten down screws (1).

Tightening torque 18 20 2AZ .

Install reinforcement plate (2).

Tighten down screws (1).

Tightening torque 33 32 11AZ .

Adjust new catalytic converter with center silencer and connect to rear silencer by clamps.

Center clamps and tighten down.

Tightening torque 18 31 5AZ .

Required follow-up work: 

• Check exhaust system for leaks.
