Removing and installing/replacing controller drive for left or right exhaust flap (S55 engine)

Only perform this repair work after the exhaust system has cooled down.

Removal: 

Unlock and disconnect the plug connection (1).

Slacken nut (2).

Slacken nut (2).

Lower and remove exhaust system with assistance of a second person.

Lower rear silencer (1) slightly.

Release screws (1).

Remove controller drive for left or right exhaust flap (2).

Preparation for installation: 

Make sure that the exhaust flap is positioned correctly for connection of the controller drive!

Installation: 

Install controller drive for left or right exhaust flap (2).

Tighten down screws (1).

Tightening torque 18 20 5AZ .

Mount rear silencer (1).

Mount holder and tighten nuts (2).

Tightening torque 18 20 3AZ .

Attach plug connection (1).

Connector (1) must engage audibly.

Installation note: 

If the actuator drive is over the end stop and cannot be connected with the C-retainer of the exhaust flap, the actuator drive must be moved to the mounting position via the BMW diagnosis system. To do this, connect the connector for the actuator drive before installation.

Connect the vehicle with the BMW diagnosis system:

• Select the exhaust flap control.
• Select installation position button.
