Removing And Installing Soft Top Compartment Lid (M4 Convertible)

Special tools required: 

• 54 0 240

Read contents of BODY, GENERAL .

For stripping and rigging operations, refer to texts on KSD CD (FRU number 41 63 060).

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

• Connect battery charger.

Removal: 

Open rear module.

Clip the special tool 54 0 240 onto hydraulic cylinder (1) on left and right.

Remove special tool after completing work.

Use emergency release to open tailgate.

Tape off tailgate (1) in area shown (2) on both sides with plastic adhesive tape.

Carry over the work step shown symmetrically to the other side of the vehicle.

Release screw (1) and nuts (2).

This operation must be carried out with a second person assisting.

Unscrew nuts (4). Remove soft top compartment lid with the aid of a second person.

Installation: 

For the preliminary setting, use the same number of distance plates. Install soft top compartment lid at screw locations on the rear module.

Install the soft top compartment lid with the assistance of a second person and tighten nuts (4).

Join screw (1) and nuts (2) and tighten.

Tightening torque 41 63 SOFT TOP COMPARTMENT LID .

Remove special tool 54 0 240 to the left and right.

Remove plastic adhesive tape (2) on both sides if the tailgate (1).

Required follow-up work: 

• Disconnect charger.
• Adjust SOFT TOP COMPARTMENT LID .
