Replacing Tailgate (M4 Convertible)

Read contents of BODY, GENERAL .

For stripping and rigging operations, refer to texts on KSD CD (FRU number 41 62 001).

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Remove Trim Panel Of Tailgate; See REMOVING AND INSTALLING OR REPLACING TRIM FOR REAR LID (M4 CONVERTIBLE) .
Disconnect all cable connectors and pull the wiring harness out of the tailgate.
Release Gas Pressure Spring to left and right of tailgate REMOVING AND INSTALLING OR REPLACING LEFT OR RIGHT GAS PRESSURE SPRING FOR TAILGATE (M4 CONVERTIBLE) .

Removal:

NOTE: This operation must be carried out with a second person assisting.

Release screws (1) on both sides and remove the tailgate.

Installation:

NOTE: This operation must be carried out with a second person assisting.

Install tailgate at screw locations on the retaining bracket.

Insert and tighten screws (1) on both sides.

Tightening torque 41 62 TAILGATE .

Required follow-up work:

Install GAS PRESSURE SPRING on left and right REMOVING AND INSTALLING OR REPLACING LEFT OR RIGHT GAS PRESSURE SPRING FOR TAILGATE (M4 CONVERTIBLE) .
Feed in the wiring harness in the tailgate. Connect all the cable connectors.
Adjust TAILGATE .
