Replacing Tail Panel (M4 Convertible)

Procedure OBSERVE repair stage 2!
STRIP DOWN vehicle.
Following new body parts are required (see applicable BMW Parts Catalog):
- (1) Rear trim panel
Following CONSUMABLES are required:

Removal:
Operation is partially described on the left side. Right side identical.
Open welded connections in area (1).
Release the welded connections in areas (1) and remove the tail panel.
Preparation of new part:
Mark area (1) in accordance with dimensions approx. 15 x 20 mm and cut.
The bore holes (1) can be enlarged slightly if necessary.
Slide in rear trim panel upwards from below. Adjust in combination with tailgate and rear lights to fit and secure.
In area (1), set eight 4.2 mm bore holes for blind rivets.
In area (1), set 3 ø 4.2 mm holes for blind rivets.
Installation note:
When installing, insert the blind rivets from the outside to the inside.
On both vehicle sides, prepare areas (1) for plug-welding.
Additionally prepare areas (2) for MAG welding. Length of weld seams 20 mm.
Remove new part and deburr holes.
Installation:
Clean bonding surfaces with cleaning agent R1.
Apply adhesive to bonding surfaces.
Fit rear trim panel.
When installing new parts, make sure there is sufficient adhesive on bonding surfaces.
Rivet rear trim panel in areas (1) with blind rivets.
Use N5 punch rivets in areas (2) and (3).
In area (2), set punch rivets alternately from both sides.

Weld areas (1) and (2) as per new part preparation.
Press rear trim panel in areas (1) and remove emerging adhesive.
Then install carrier for bumper panel to secure rear trim panel.
Do not use any cleaning agents containing solvents.
After hardening of the adhesive install 9 EMC SCREWS in the areas shown.
