Stripping Operations - Replacing Tail Panel (M4 Convertible)
The following list basically represents the removal sequence.
- Remove battery (FR number: 61 21 010)
- Remove battery negative cable (job number: 61 12 013)
- Remove bumper panel (FRU number: 51 12 156)
- Remove support for bumper panel (job number: 51 12 050)
- Remove guide for bumper at rear center (FRU number: 51 28 825)
- Remove guide for bumper at rear left and right (FRU number: 51 12 801)
- Remove both rear lights (job number: 63 21 180)
- Remove luggage compartment floor trim panel.
- Remove tail panel trim at top (FR number: 51 46 050)
- Remove and install luggage compartment trim panel on side panel, left (FR number: 51 47 210)
- Remove and install luggage compartment trim panel on side panel, right (FR number: 51 47 220)
- Remove trim panel for luggage compartment side member on left and right (FRU number: 51 47 205)
- Remove rear module (FR number: 54 37 160)
- Remove and install left or right striker for tailgate catch (FRU number: 51 24 131)
- Lower rear silencer
- Release tailgate seal
Release plug connections (1) from facing (4).
Lever out expanding rivet (2).
Release nuts (3) and remove facing (4).
Release nut (1) and lay holder (2) with control unit towards front.
Release latch mechanisms and remove rear ventilation (3).
Tie insulating mat (4) forwards.
Installation note:
The rear ventilation (3) must not be damaged. (watertightness).
All latch mechanisms must engage audibly.
Release nut (1) and remove earth support point.
Tightening torque 41 34 TAIL COWLING .
Release the wiring harness at the attachment points (2) and place it forward.
Tie insulating mat (3) forwards.
Release screws (1) and remove battery ground (2).
Tightening torque 41 35 SIDE PANELS .
Release latch mechanisms and remove rear ventilation (3).
Installation note:
The rear ventilation (3) must not be damaged. (watertightness).
All latch mechanisms must engage audibly.
