Replacing Luggage Compartment Floor And Side Member On Right (Rear Side Panel And Tail Panel Removed) (M4 Convertible)

Read contents of BODY, GENERAL .

STRIP DOWN VEHICLE .

Place vehicle on straightening bench.

Use portal fixture from set of attachments.

Observe procedure of REPAIR STAGE 3 .

Following new body parts are required (see applicable BMW Parts Catalog):

(1) Luggage compartment well
(2) Luggage compartment floor, rear
(3) Luggage compartment well, right
(4) Bottom right side member
(5) Frame side member, top right
(6) Fixture for rear module lower section, right
(7) Fixture for rear module upper section, right
(8) Luggage compartment floor, right

Following CONSUMABLES are required:

Removal:

Open welded connections in area (1).

Mark severance cut (1) next to reinforcement (2) and disconnect.

Open welded connections in areas (3).

Remove luggage compartment floor (2).

Mark severance cut (1) through Ø 20 mm hole and cut.

IMPORTANT: Only disconnect the lower panel.

Mark severance cut (2) 25 mm before the center point hole (3) and disconnect.

Release welded connections in areas (4) and remove side member section.

Preparation of new part:

Prepare the following new parts for joining by welding:

Extension, bottom side member
Extension, top side member
Luggage compartment well, right
Luggage compartment well
Luggage compartment floor, right
Fixture for rear module lower section
Fixture for rear module upper section

Mark severance cuts on side member in accordance with severance cuts on vehicle and cut.

Mark severance cut on luggage compartment floor at right in accordance with severance cut on vehicle + 15 mm for extra material and cut. Install luggage compartment floor overlapping in area of severance cut.

Prepare for severance cuts on the side member REINFORCEMENT PLATES .

Adjust new parts to fit with alignment bracket or universal mount and secure.

Additionally adjust new parts to fit with tail panel, tailgate and rear lights.

Position both fixtures (1) for rear module with portal fixtures from set of attachments.

In areas (1) to (3), set 4.2 mm diameter bore holes for blind rivets.

Remove new parts and deburr bore holes.

IMPORTANT: Do not grind new parts and body in area of bonding surfaces.

Installation of side member, luggage compartment well, right side luggage compartment floor and rear module fixtures:

Install new parts and reinforcement plates with alignment bracket or universal mount and with portal fixtures and weld as per series standard:

Installation of rear luggage compartment floor:

Clean all bonding surfaces with cleaning agent R1.

Apply adhesive to bonding surfaces.

When installing the new part, make sure that all bonding surfaces have sufficient adhesive.

Install new part and in areas (1) to (3) rivet with blind rivets.

After hardening of the adhesive install 4 EMC SCREWS in the areas shown (1).
