Stripping Operations - Replacing Luggage Compartment Floor And Side Member On Right (Rear Side Panel And Tail Panel Removed) (M4 Convertible)
The following list basically represents the removal sequence.
- Remove exhaust system (job number: petrol engine 18 00 020, diesel engine 18 00 018)
- Remove exhaust system heat shield
- Remove rear axle support (job number: 33 31 000)
Release nut (1) and remove earth support point.
Tightening torque 41 34 TAIL COWLING .
Release the wiring harness at the attachment points (2) and place it forward.
Tie insulating mat (3) forwards.
Release screws (1) and remove battery ground (2).
Tightening torque 41 34 TAIL COWLING .
Release latch mechanisms and remove rear ventilation (3).
Installation note:
The rear ventilation (3) must not be damaged. (watertightness).
All latch mechanisms must engage audibly.
Remove cover (1) and release nut (2) below it.
Tightening torque 61 21 BATTERY WITH HOLDER .
Turn the lock (2) counterclockwise and remove.
Push the positive battery wire connector (1) through the luggage compartment floor to the outside.
UNLOCK PLUG CONNECTIONS (1) AT POWER DISTRIBUTION BOX POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE (2) AND DISCONNECT .
Release plug connections (3) at the positive battery cable.
Release nuts (4) and remove power distribution box positive battery cable (2).
Tightening torque 61 21 BATTERY WITH HOLDER .
Press wiring harness (1) through to the inside with the grommet.
Release screw (2) and slacken REMOVE AND INSTALL (REPLACE) CONTROL UNIT REAR ELECTRONIC MODULE (REM) (M4 CONVERTIBLE) (3).
Release wiring harness at attachment points (4) and tie with module (3) towards front.
Tie insulating mat (5) forwards.
Remove sound insulators (1) and (2).
Release screw fitting (1) and detach torsion cover (2).
Tightening torque 5171 GASKETS AND LOOSE BODY PARTS .
Release screw fitting and remove holder (3).
Release nut (1) for ground cable.
Tightening torque 41 34 TAIL COWLING .
Cut open cable strap (2).
Release wiring harness at attachment point (3).
Release wiring harness and hydraulic lines from cable clip (4).
Cut open cable strap (1). Release wiring harness and hydraulic lines from cable clip (2).
Remove hydraulic unit (1) from inserter (2) and move forwards.
Remove control units from inserter (2) and move forwards. Remove inserter (2).
Remove heat shield (3).
The hydraulic lines must not be kinked, crushed or crossed.
When installing, the hydraulic lines must be laid exactly as in production.
Left and right side of vehicle:
Release nut (1) and remove holder (2).
Tightening torque 41 34 TAIL COWLING .
Release cable clips (1) at latch mechanisms (3) and raise.
Cut through cable clip (1) at areas (2).
Slacken nut (1).
Release cable clip (4) at catches (3) and lift.
Cut through cable clip (4) at areas (2) and remove.
