Removing and installing/replacing right main kinematics hydraulic cylinder (M4 Convertible)
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove luggage compartment wheel arch panel on left or right. Refer to REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING LEFT LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT WHEEL ARCH PANEL or REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING RIGHT LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT WHEEL ARCH PANEL .
- Remove PANEL FOR MAIN BEARING on left or right
- Remove LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT FLOOR TRIM PANEL .
- Open tailgate
IMPORTANT:
Hydraulic fluid may emerge from the disconnected lines and the open connections on the hydraulic cylinder.
Protect components and work area with suitable materials (e.g. cloths).
Makes hydraulic system de-pressurized:
IMPORTANT:
The roof shells lower.
Feed out control unit (1).
Use a hexagon socket (AF 4) to slowly open the shutoff valve on the hydraulic unit by three turns.
NOTE:
Shutoff valve is located under a plastic funnel.
Unfasten plug connection (1) and disconnect.
Installation note:
Ensure that the wiring harness (2) is accurately routed in the main bearing.
Unclip cover (1).
Removing hydraulic cylinder:
- Remove retaining ring (1)
- Drive out pin in inward direction (middle of vehicle)
- Detach locking clip (2)
- Drive out pin in outward direction (side of vehicle)
- Feed hydraulic cylinder out of main bearing
Disconnect all cable straps.
Installation note:
Replace faulty cable straps.
Unfasten plug connection (3) and disconnect.
Detach retaining clip (1).
Undo the screw (2) and remove the lock washer.
Detach hydraulic lines.
IMPORTANT:
Protect joints (lines and cylinder) against dripping fluid, e.g. with a cleaning cloth.
NOTE:
- Carry out function check
- Check FLUID LEVEL .
