Removing and installing/replacing rear roofliner tension cable (M4 Convertible)

Special tools required: 

• 2 359 116

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

• Connect BATTERY CHARGER .

Installation note: 

• Microencapsulated screws (Loctite) must be replaced and may not  be reused
• Screw connection must be completed within 20 min. (start of hardening)
• Microencapsulated screws must not  be retightened
• Thread of nut must be cleaned beforehand in event of repeated use

Open the soft top until the displayed position is reached.

Main pillar (1) is in vertical position.

Release expanding rivet (1) and remove cover (2).

Release Torx screw (1) on main bearing with special tool 2 359 116.

Tightening torque 54 37 16AZ .

Remove protective grommets (1) from spring (2).

Detach securing eye (3) from spring (2).

Remove remnants of tension cable.

Installation note: 

Feed in loop (1) of new tension cable up to knot (2).

Feed securing eye (2) through loop (1).

Feed tension cable into guide (1).

Release screws (2) and remove eyes (3).

Feed new tension cable into eyes (3).

Fit eyes (3) and tighten down screws (2).

Tightening torque 54 37 15AZ .

Make sure eyes (3) are in correct installation position.
