Removing and installing/replacing backrest frame for left or right front seat (Except M4 GTS)
Improper handling may trigger the side airbag and as a result cause injuries.
Observe safety information on HANDLING AIRBAG MODULES AND PYROTECHNICAL SEAT BELT TENSIONERS .
Use of the universal seat mount is recommended for carrying out expert repairs.
Necessary preliminary work:
- Remove backrest cover with upholstery. Refer to REPLACING BACKREST COVER FOR DRIVER'S SEAT or REPLACING BACKREST COVER FOR FRONT PASSENGER SEAT .
Unclip connector (1) from backrest frame.
Undo wiring harness from backrest frame at clips (1).
Carefully feed wiring harness out of backrest frame.
Unhook seat cover on left and right.
Unclip ball socket (1) from ball head on left and right.
Installation note:
Ball socket (1) must audibly snap into place.
Ball socket (1) must be able to move freely on the ball head.
Actuate rear catch (2) and remove guide for Bowden cable (3) by rotational movement towards the rear.
Release screws (1) on left and right.
Tightening torque 52 10 2AZ .
Remove backrest frame (2) upwards from the seat mechanism (3).
Replacement:
- REMOUNT BOTH SEAT CUSHIONS FOR BACKREST WIDTH ADJUSTMENT .
- Remount lumbar support if necessary. Refer to REPLACING LEFT LUMBAR SUPPORT or REPLACING LUMBAR SUPPORT, RIGHT .
- Remount lumbar support pump. Refer to REPLACING LUMBAR SUPPORT PUMP (WITH VALVE BLOCK) ON LEFT or REPLACING RIGHT LUMBAR SUPPORT PUMP (WITH VALVE BLOCK) .
- Remount RELEASE MECHANISM .
