Replace the rear spoiler (M4 CS only)
Special tools required:
- 51 0 300
Rear spoiler is secured to tailgate with double-sided adhesive tape and window glass adhesive.
The following notes are to be complied with:
Do not install rear spoiler with poor accuracy of fit. A loosely placed rear spoiler may not protrude, especially at the corners. Check accuracy of fit before bonding.
The following consumables and tools are needed:
| Cleaning agent R1 | Cleaning agent R2 |
| Yellow plastic adhesive tape | CARTRIDGE GUN |
| Cutting cord | WIRE PULL HANDLES |
| Eraser disk | WINDOW GLASS ADHESIVE 300 ML . |
Remove rear spoiler:
Cut through bonding of rear spoiler (1) with cutting cord (2) and wire pull handles (3).
Cut back residual adhesive bead of tailgate and rear spoiler (1) with pinchweld scraper to approx. 0.5 mm.
Do not damage paintwork on tailgate.
Remove the remainder of the double-sided adhesive tape with an ERASER DISC .
Determine the attachment position of the rear spoiler:
Place rear spoiler (1) on tailgate.
Longitudinal position is defined by the tailgate contour.
Align rear spoiler (1) to tailgate, dimension (X and Y) must be the same on the left and right.
Mark position of rear spoiler (1) on the left and right with adhesive tape (2).
Clean tailgate in adhesive area with solvent cleaner R1.
Prepare rear spoiler:
Clean rear spoiler in adhesive area with solvent cleaner R2.
Apply double-sided adhesive tape (1) to rear spoiler (distance to spoiler outer edge approx. 1 mm).
Dimension a=70 mm
Measurement b = 110 mm
The adhesion of the adhesive tape builds up significantly via the contact pressure. Therefore, press thumbs or fingers over the entire area. Completely pull off protective films (1) from adhesive tapes.
Only pull off protective films from adhesive tapes (1) a few centimeters and deposit such that they protrude over the component edge. Completely pull off short protective films.
If possible, wait for approximately 2 hours before installing the rear spoiler.
Prepare nozzle:
Cut off nozzle tip to dispense adhesive.
Dimension A = 5, 5 mm
Dimension B = 6 mm
Apply adhesive bead (1) with a height of 6 mm centrally between the two adhesive tapes (2).
Install the rear spoiler:
Perform the following work with a second person to give assistance.
Align rear spoiler (1) to adhesive tapes (2).
Carefully pull out protective films and affix rear spoiler (1) to tailgate. Make sure the position of the rear spoiler (1) is correct when pulling out the protective films.
Press down with force on the rear spoiler (1), using the special tool 51 0 300, over the entire bonding surface of the double-sided adhesive tape, in particular at the edges.
In the area of the window glass adhesive make sure that no adhesive enters the visible area when pressing down. If necessary, remove adhesive that has emerged.
Adhere to a minimum hardening time of 2 hours. Final strength is reached after approx. 16 to 24 hours.
