23 12 090 Replacing radial shaft seal for gearshift shaft (GS6-17BG/DG)
Special tools required:

Attention!
After completion of repair work, check TRANSMISSION OIL LEVEL .
Use only approved transmission oil. Refer to: MANUAL TRANSMISSION - OPERATING FLUIDS
Failure to comply with this instruction will result in serious damage to the transmission.
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Partially release PROPELLER SHAFT
.
- Disconnect propeller shaft at transmission.
- Release center mount.
- Tie up the propeller shaft to the vehicle underbody.NOTE: Bending the propeller shaft by an excessive angle can cause premature damage to the joint/propeller shaft!
Removal:
Undo screw (1) and slightly lower transmission.
Unlock and remove bearing journal in direction of arrow.
Pull off retaining clip (1) and remove gearshift rod.
Lever circlamp (3) out of groove with a small screwdriver.
Slide circlamp (3) towards rear.
Drive out the cylindrical pin (1) and remove the gearshift rod joint (2) from gearshift shaft.
Screw in special tool 2 219 637 until it is firmly connected with radial shaft seal (1).
Pull out radial shaft seal with special tool 2 219 637 .
Installation:
Coat sealing lips of radial shaft seal and gearshift shaft with transmission oil.
Drive in radial shaft seal with special tool 23 0 220 .
Slide gearshift rod joint (2) onto gearshift shaft and drive in cylindrical pin (1).
Use circlip (3) to secure cylindrical pin (1).
Install bearing journals (1) and lock in direction of arrow.
Grease bearing journal.
Grease, refer to MANUAL TRANSMISSION - OPERATING FLUIDS .
Install gearshift rod and insert retaining clip (1) till it is engaged.
Grease gearshift rod pin.
Grease, refer to MANUAL TRANSMISSION - OPERATING FLUIDS .
Insert screw (1) and tighten.
Tightening torque, refer to: 25 11 2AZ .
Required follow-up work:
- Install the PROPELLER SHAFT .
